Visit The Deep, one of the most amazing aquariums in the world. It is home to over 3,500 fish,sharks and rays. Different exhibitions around the aquarium show the different marine environments and the species of marine life that live within them.
This is Yorkshire’s only remaining Napoleonic fortress. Explore 500 years of history within the walls of the fortress set in 10 acres with magnificent views over the Humber estuary. Reenactments and vintage car rally’s are held throughout the summer.
Explore the underground world of the bunkers at RAF Holmpton with the guided tours that take visitors through 60 years of history. All the tours are fully guided and supported with shows, films and demonstrations.
The museum quarter in central Hull takes you back 235 million years to see wooly mammoths and sea monsters at the Museum of Archeology. The Streetlife Museum of Transport includes all of your senses as the history of the streets of Hull are brought back to life. Wilberforce House was the birthplace of William Wilberforce, who played a vital role is abolishing slavery. Plus view the dangerous life of deep sea fishing aboard the trawler the Arctic Corsair.
Built between 1598 & 1610, Burton Agnes Hall is an Elizabethan stately home that has remained in the hands of the same family for the last 400 years. Spend the day viewing the treasures that have been collected since the hall was built through to more recent times and the various gardens that surround the hall. The walled garden was re-established in 1990 to incorporate the style of the Elizabethan period but also include various species of plants that are more modern. There is also the jungle garden which has a more relaxed feel to the garden, and a maze.
The hall has been home to the Constable family for the last 700 years. Circa 1500’s manor house was built to replace an old pele tower which has stood to protect the village since the reign of King Stephen in the 12th Century. This coincided with the clearance of a village to make way for a deer park. In 1560 the majority of the manor house was demolished and in its place a mansion was built. It is thought that in building was completed by the beginning if the 16th Century.
Now visitors have access to 30 rooms which have been opened to the public for the viewing of the splendor of fine furniture, paintings and sculptures, as well as the opportunity to stroll around the gardens and the park, which landscape was commissioned by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in 1772-1782.
