Coasts & Beaches in East Yorkshire
Here are some of the beaches near Lakeview Holiday Park:
With its castle, Withernsea has one of the grandest beach entrances. Along with its newly rebuilt promenade it has the perfect blend of traditional seaside attractions. The lighthouse towers 127ft above the town and is home to the Lighthouse Museum, which has a tribute to the local born actress Kay Kendall.
Although Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby are more well known for their beaches, Hornsea has become more of a hidden away coastal gem. Once well known for its pottery production, the award-winning Hornsea Folk Museum has the largest collection of Hornsea Pottery in the world. The town is now home to Yorkshire’s largest freshwater lake which boasts over 250 species of birds and plenty of opportunities for sailing and fishing. Constable Hall, an Elizabethan mansion set in 300 acres of parkland, is also a great place to spend an afternoon. In July there is the annual carnival, with stalls, rides and a brilliant fireworks display.
Witness the breathtaking landscape of Spurn Point – ‘a place of ever changing wildlife’. A popular place for bird watchers, Spurn is the best mainland location in the UK to witness bird migration. The lighthouse trails begins at Spurn where there are two lighthouses situated close to each other at the Southern end of the the point. There have been lighthouses on Spurn since 1427.
There is also a seasonal Cafè.
This is one of the best places in England to view seabirds. With five different viewpoint you are sure to get a wonderful perspective and true feel for the number of birds, approx 200,000 that make their homes on the cliffs during the April to August months. One of the highlights during Spring is the arrival of the Puffin who breed on the cliffs. Peregrines and gannets are also popular.
